Topic: ¡°Next Billion Wi-Fi Units¡±
Speaker: Mr Myron Hattig, Director of WLAN
Standards, Mobile Wireless Group, Intel
Abstract
Wi-Fi is a recognized part of many people's
everyday life across the globe. We expect Wi-Fi based Internet
access in our homes, offices, coffee shops, airports, and hotels. It
is not just a technology that is shipped in hundreds of millions of
devices; it is a technology that gets used everyday. Wi-Fi is a
global success by any technology or marketing measurement.
However, this is just the beginning as most Wi-Fi
devices today are PCs. With Wi-Fi shipping in phones, MP3 players,
home video servers, cameras, and TVs, Wi-Fi is breaching to an
entirely new set of users that will drive Wi-Fi shipments into the
billions. The users of these new devices will have little patience
for the technology trial and error of PCs.
This talk is about the leading market indicators
showing that this transition is underway and what must change about
Wi-Fi in order for this transition to be successful.
